There are so many things you have to decide about when you are getting a new computer. If it is a laptop, you have to worry about the screen size and the weight. If it is a desktop, you will think a lot about the CPU and the graphics card you will want to get. But the one choice that some people often ignore pertains to the hard disk you are going to have on your computer. And the hard disk is where you will be storing all your data, such as the operating system and all your files.
When it comes to getting the hard drive, you have two main choices. You can either go with the typical hard disk drive, where you are getting a good amount of space to store things, but you are not getting anything revolutionary in terms of speed. The other downside to these HDDs is the fact that they get slower over time. Even if you do a clean install of your operating system, having a three or four-year old hard drive means you will have slower speeds for everything you are doing on the computer.
And it is why so many people are now adding a SSD to their computer. Even if you have a laptop, you can easily use the DVD drive bay to add a SSD to your computer. It is the place where you will want to install your operating system, because you will be able to load it much quicker. Your key applications, such as internet browsers and word processing software, should also go on the SSD. And some key files you never want to lose, since SSDs are more reliable than HDDs. But your major files, like videos and games, can go on the HDD as it has more space.
